I bought a standard Sea Dog motor mounting bracket to go on the stern rail of my R23. The vertical space on the stern rail will not allow for the bracket to be installed. It is easy to cut the plastic bracket down to fit but because of its design that would seriously weaken the bracket to the point that I would not trust it.
I figure that someone has to have had success mounting a dinghy motor on a 23 so how did you go about it? I would like to mount the motor on the swim step rail but according to the installer I would have to cut the rail. I would prefer not to have to do that.
I had thought that I could buy a split "T" to go on the horizontal part of that rail but that was naive thinking on my part. There is a hinged T but that won't fit the bracket.
How have folks mounted their dinghy motors on the R-23?
