I've enjoyed the R29S once the wiring issues were sorted out. But, as per the movie 'Jaws', my wife and I agree, "We're going to need a bigger boat".

So, Savage II is now for sale and I have contracted to buy a fifty foot steel trawler. The Ranger tugs are excellent boats and the quality is high. I continue to be impressed by how much you get in such a short boat. But the freezer is too small, as are the fuel tanks, fresh water and holding tanks. The boat I'm buying has an LG fridge/freezer like the one in my kitchen, carries 1985 gallons of fuel and 1,100 gallons of water. The holding tank is in the hundreds of gallons too.

I'm not going to compare the two because they are worlds apart with different design goals. I hope I'm going to be happy with the new trawler. It's really more an 'expedition yacht'. and even has strengthening in the bow for pushing through ice.

WOW!
That is taking 2 ft itis to the extreme!
Good luck withn the new boat!

Sounds like Red Head, which is the boat owned by Jeff & Karen Siegel, the former owners of Active Captain

Congratulations..... I know people in my area who have adopted large boats in favor of having a land-based shack. 😱 The beauty is that we all have choices to make. Where on earth will you be breaking ice I ask ? How many days of the year will you be spending on that large boat ?

Days on the new boat? Er, 365. As for ice I'm not yet ready to seek it out but I am planning some exploring around Newfoundland so 'Iceberg Alley' may be visited.

As for the 'two footitis' comment, the Ranger was downsizing from 36 feet so not such a big leap. That said, the new boat at 95,000 LBS is a totally different beast to what I have had to date so new skills need to be learned.
