We bought a 2014 Ranger Tug and changed the boat name. We joined BoatUS and changed the boat name registration with them keeping the same MMSI numbers . When we go on the boat finder it still shows the original boat name for our location. If we ever need boat assistance I would like to have this changed. We were told by BoatUS we need to have a Garmin Service rep actually make the change with our Garmin. Does anyone know where to contact a person in the Mt Vernon-Anacortes area?

Thank you Rocky PM’ed me and was able to get the connection needed for the name change.

Isn't a new MMSI registration easier / just as easy if you have to go to Garmin anyway? That would be a good opportunity to swap to an FCC MMSI instead of the BoatUS MMSI.

Also, be aware that if you register with BoatUS you will need to turn off DSC when in Canada (and two-way AIS, if you have it), or could get hit with a substantial fine. The BoatUS registration also makes DSC/MMSI/distress calls worthless for emergencies in Canada.

It's alway best to get your MMSI through the FCC.

Bob,
Completely agree with you on going through FCC for MMSI registration.
The only circumstance where I would have used BoatUS would be if I never, never ever intended to cross any international border. If you ever change your mind and want to go with FCC registration MMSI after getting a BoatUS MMSI assigned number it is a pain and, I understand, may not even be possible without sending your radio back to the manufacturer or factory service center for resetting.
Prior to COVID we crossed the US Canadian border8-10 times a year with Nexus. The FCC is more expensive but much better if you are a US boater who ever dreams of visiting Canadian waters.
