I've seen the application discussed briefly here. I'm interested in learning more if there are more users, or users who have more experience since the topic first came up.

If you are using it, do you simply use the app or are you using it in conjunction with the Nebo Tracker and it's supporting subscription plan?

Nebo: Log. Connect: Share the Journey.

Thanks,

Bruce

I have been using Nebo for a year now and think it is great. I first used the free version on my phone...open the app, push a button to start, push a button to stop...and you get a pretty accurate log in a pdf form. You can add passengers and other information before you start.

I added the tracker last year. I'm going to be doing the Great Loop next year and I wanted a way for friends to track me where ever the boat is...as long as there is cell coverage. One bonus with the tracker is that I get an email whenever the boat starts to move and the tracker is a tiny little box that is easily hidden away.

There's a picture in my photo album of the trip I did when doing a autopilot calibration...plus the 30 minutes I was on the phone with Garmin. It shows track and with the colors, the speed, for each segment.

I've had a couple of interactions with the Nebo people and they are always responsive and helpful. Let me know if you want a copy of the whole pdf that gets sent.

Hi Bruce,

I used the free version on our trip to Alaska last summer. It has a nice feature that builds a Facebook post out of a set of photos and a route track for each leg. While this feature works pretty well when in internet range it has severe problems when out of range even though it allows for posting when you get back in range. The photos are integrated into the log based on when they are uploaded. While the photos can be uploaded into the log when you are out of internet range the post to Facebook that is built when you get back in range is missing those photos. The post is also limited to four photos per log (day).

Also another limitation is each log (pdf or Facebook post) is limited to one day. There is no way to do a multiday log that can be seen outside the app. The limitation to one day at a time does not allow for creating a complete route and log of a whole trip.

I believe there is a way to directly share with a group besides Facebook but we didn’t use it, not expecting others to log into yet another social portal.

I ended up only using the app to post our daily route track to Facebook and posted photos to Facebook directly each time we got a signal.

Our complete route was tracked using our Garmin InReach instead.

In summary, Nebo has some potential but didn’t fully meet our needs. Especially if you are out of cell range.

We LOVE Nebo. We have the dedicated tracker on the boat so it starts and stops automatically without us ever having to remember.

We are always in cell service coverage so the tracker never has any issues.

Highly recommend!

I downloaded this app in my cell phone right after reading this post. Thanks Bruce for bringing this up. I like the simplicity of it but was wondering if folks have used the tool that allows you to track other boats. I say this because it would be handy if a bunch of tugnuts signed up for this and when, say, in the PNW, we could see who was nearby, whether for emergencies, advice or just a social call.

I say this because Ranger owners are, by far, the most pleasant people to interact with on the water. Something about the boat I guess. If you doubt this, go to the Rondezvous.

I also just downloaded the free app.

The America's Great Loop Cruiser's Association uses it to allow members to keep track of each other. They actually have a special icon for members, so it's really easy to see the vessels around you.

Here's the link to mine so you can see what it looks like: https://trackme.nebo.global/?link=1PE3MNLPVO9BW1X2J9Z01IZO2VR

Not sure why, but it's not showing the icon in the tracker link...when I pull it up on my computer it does.

Having utilized the Nebo app a number of times I've found it a handy log of my day trips by capturing the weather, location (lat & long) if not the specific location; i.e., Bedwell Harbour, time, duration, distance and avg speed at multiple intervals of a voyage. Also, the color coded course tracker is broken up in different shades showing speed range in knots. The app will email you the log after completion of the voyage. Simple to use, I typically use the app from my iPad.
