Need a quick favor...

I am pretty sure there aren't any Ranger Tugs or Cutwaters with a 6YB that will be climbing any hills without use of a truck any time soon. 😛

Volvo sanctions Polestar for their autos and warranty is not affected.... not sure about their marine products mind you. A Polestar upgrade to a Volvo auto will run you around $1,000. I was able to add Polestar to my MY2012 XC70 T6 at the port of entry for $995, and it does make a very nice uplift to the cars performance. 😉

Just curious as to why a fellow Tugnut would ask us to try it out. Why would we be his test subjects and he not try it himself. Could this be a marketing ploy?

Circusmar,

I would be more than willing to purchase it and run it for you...all I need is for you to send me your credit card info...

John, Don't forget shipping and duty because it is coming from the UK!

BTW, Does the C28 run the Yanmar 6BY260? I thought the Cutwater's ran Volvo's.

Up until 2012 the Cutwater ran Yanmar engins.
Regards, Ron

well played sir! well played! 😀

knotflying: no worries, not marketing, only joking - although I would like to get our boat going up hills with more zest.

Circusmar,

Wasn't sure if it was one of those marketing ploys. Regarding the chip, as far as I know the 4by 150 and 180 are the same engine and the increased horse power is due to computer settings so I am sure that this chip is doing the same thing. Not sure how long it would take to offset the fuel economy with the cost of the chip.

I'm sure that the chip 'works'. It's just question of what you want to trade for more horsepower. That engine will put out 260HP for X years, assuming good maintenance practices. That same engine will probably put out 300HP for X minus 30%-50% years.

There is no magic in chipping an engine - its just air/fuel/timing - but you will be taking that engine beyond the parameters it was designed for, and into the unknown. All of those Honda cars running around with the huge aftermarket exhaust pipes and obnoxious noise? They were chipped, turning what was probably a 200,000 mile engine into an oil-burning blue-smoking monster that MAY last 70,000 if you are lucky. There are dragsters that get 2000 HP out of a V8 engine that originally put out 220, but it only lasts for about 2000 feet and then it has to be rebuilt.

My question about this chip would be, how does it improve the fuel economy of my 25 SC with the Yanmar 150? I don't think it would help my speed any without over revving the engine or re propping the boat. Better milage, I may consider it.

All these engines are now computer controlled. As an example the 4BY 150 and 180 are exactly the same engine. The difference is the settings on the computer give the 180 more horsepower. So with the chip it will change the settings and hence you will get more power at a lower RPM.
