Would like to talk to an experienced North West Ranger Tug opperator about costs associated with ownership.

Thanks

My rough rule... assuming home port moorage + maintenance + annual state registration fee

4% of Tugs retail purchase price + $12/hour of use.

So for a retail price of say $150,000 and 100 hrs of use per year you would get $6,000 + $300 for fuel (assuming $3/gal diesel).

Of course add to this the cost of staying at various Ports you may visit.

If you always pull your Tug out of the water and trailer it to a local position then the annual cost can be reduced by anywhere between $2,400 and $3,500. But you pay more upfront for that trailer in the range of $7,000. Then, if you trailer your boat around the country that pushes the cost up quite a bit more.

Thank you very much for your comments! I have a few more questions if thats OK.

What do they charge for truck and trailor storage where you put your boat in lets say north of Seattle while you are out crusing and where do you get the best deals. What kind of fee for over the winter Storage in Washington. What are the license fees per annum. What is the sales tax on a boat in Washington.

Thanks so much for your help.

Sales tax / Use tax rate in WA is 9.5% of the Tug's invoiced amount. At least that is what I paid. Use tax is calculated at the same rate as the sales tax at the purchaser’s address.

The WA state annual registration fee is based on the Tug's value. See http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/fees.html

I also believe there's a WA state license tag plate fee for a trailer.

I have no info on the truck/trailer fees when left behind or for its long term storage.
