Attention All Tugnuts in Central Alaska!

I am plotting to start our very own Tugnuts Rendezvous in Southcentral Alaska. Everywhere I go in the state I see more and more RT and Cutwater boats in our harbors. It seems like we have a critical mass to make this happen. Andrew Custis and the factory are on board with a guest appearance planned by the man himself! This will be an opportunity to have your boats checked out and possibly get light warranty work done.

The biggest obstacle is finding a suitable location with no private harbors in Alaska. I have been calling around and not getting much support from any of the harbormasters. However, the Seldovia Chamber of Commerce is keen to host us and can guarantee slips for 20 boats in their harbor. They have all the amenities we need, including an enclosed pavilion right next to the harbor for group events. They also have classroom space if we want to add some seminars. There are several bars and restaurants overlooking the harbor for hosting cocktail hour. It's also really fun to take the dinghy's and explore the Seldovia Slough at high tide.

Obviously, Seldovia would require many of us to trailer our boats to Homer, so I am open to other suggestions. However, the mix of accommodations and the eagerness of the Chamber to help has this at the top of the list. There are also plenty of shore accommodations for those who may want to attend, but not trailer their boats.
This is all very preliminary at this point. The next step is to get a mailing list started of interested owners. If you would like to be added to the list send me an email at the address below. Please include:

Boat name and model?
Number of potential attendees on your boat? Any kids and there ages?
Best weekends for your schedule next summer?
Are you interested in being part of the organizing committee?
Would you be interested in leading a seminar on a boating topic?
Any other ideas or comments that you have?

Send to: tjalderson@mac.com

Tim,

Outstanding idea and I'm all in with trying to make this a reality and can help you organize an event. Seldovia is an excellent choice for an event and I could lead a halibut fishing day before or after the Rendezvous out around Flat Island! I just sent you an email with a little more information.

Please contact me by phone or email.

This is a duplicate of a post on our facebook group. Feel free to reply either place.

We are up to 13 boats interested in our Rendezvous next summer! I know we are still missing some, so continue to spread the word.
Here are some questions for discussion. Please post your replies in the comments or email me directly at: tjalderson@mac.com.
How do you feel about Seldovia as the location? Some of us will have to trailer, but its about the only place that can guarantee slip space with lot's of amenities right next to the harbor. Any other suggestions to look at?
Which weekend in late July works best for you: July 15-18, July 22-25, July 28-Aug 1.
What about meals? We could arrange for some group meals or would you rather be on your own or pot luck? Maybe a mix of both?
How do you feel about a registration fee? I thing we could do evening meals and reserve meeting space for less than $100/person. Moorage would be in addition to that fee. Does this seem reasonable?
I envision most folks arriving on Friday with a welcome gathering that evening. Any interest in an informal halibut fishing derby on Thursday?
What kind of seminars/activities are you interested in and/or could you possibly lead? Here is list of suggestions already received.
Diesel/outboard maintenance
Fishing/shrimping from a RT/Cutwater
Cruising the Inside Passage
Troubleshooting electrical systems
Hike the Otterbahn Trail
Explore the Seldovia Slough via dinghy at high tide
Cooking on board
Coast Guard safety requirements (Possibly lead by CG Auxilary member)
Beach cleanup project
Kids scavenger hunt

Let me know you're thoughts and I will put together a draft schedule for consideration.

Save the Date! The first ever Alaska Tugnuts Rendezvous is happening July 15-18, 2021 in beautiful Seldovia, Alaska.

Very excited to have Andrew Custis from Ranger Tug/Cutwater attending with other staff from the factory.

The Seldovia Chamber of Commerce is ready to roll out the red carpet for us. There is a beautiful enclosed pavilion next to the harbor that I have reserved to be our base. They also have adjacent convention space for any seminars we put together. There are multiple bars and restaurants adjacent to the harbor and they are eager to host us for happy hour and live music.
The Seldovia harbormaster is going to keep all of us together in their very well maintained and modern harbor. The moorage is $1.15/ft, and $19.89/night for 30amp shore power.

Very tentative preliminary schedule:
Wednesday - Optional pre-rendezvous fishing derby
Thursday-Fishing derby continued, flotilla from Homer, evening welcome cocktails and group dinner, fishing derby awards
Friday - Factory tech seminars (topics tbd), Otterbahn hike, kids scavenger hunt, group dinner, live music @ Linwood Bar next to Harbor
Saturday - Sourdough pancake breakfast at the pavilion, Factory tech seminars (topics tbd), dinghy trip in to the Seldovia Slough at high tide, group dinner, beach bonfire, live music @Linwood Bar
Sunday - Return home, Optional flotilla to Halibut Cove for lunch at The Saltry restaurant on the way back to Homer

More details to follow, but for now mark your calendar for July 15-18.
