looking to buy a tug
Hello my fellow Tugnuts.
I am a excited new-bee and just bought a 2021 R-23 with most of the bells & whistles except AC/Heat, solar & radar.
I have been a little overwhelmed with the learning curve concerning the electric panel and overall "when to use what."
I have 3 batteries dedicated to House, Emergency Parallel and Engine. A 4th battery is for the bow thruster.
The boat was sitting for over a year and I was told to recharge via shore power for 24 hours by connecting and flipping the shore power & battery charger toggles. (photo below)
That seemed to charge my batteries however the bow thruster battery was dead, the dial box near by was in the "on" position while dry docked. I replaced the BT battery and works fine.
Can somebody point to a resource or a procedure that is clear to keep in mind when going from all off, start-up, being on shore power etc. From what I've gleamed, it is a little confusing.
Other basic questions..
1-When would I switch on the Emergency Parallel? How does that battery charge?
2-Do I just turn the BT switch on only while under way? At what point does it recharge?
3- I will be keeping the boat on a mooring for a week at a time. Other then that it will be at my home on a trailer.
Should I look into a solar panel to keep the battery charged to keep the bilge pumps on while on mooring. Any suggestion or recomedation on a system to install?
4-not sure what the accessory panel toggles do. There is a few switches at the helm as well.
5-Also while I was on shore power charging the batteries, the raw water pump switch was on. Unfortunately the the pump was running for a few hours and the owner that was helping
me get familiar with the boat thought the pump sound was inverter (ugg). When I took the boat out I tried to run the raw water. It looked like it was trying to work, saw water bubbling in the clear tube but not sure if there is a valve etc that needed to turn on. The pump sounds like it is working. Hopefully it did not burn out when originally on shore power.

I appreciate any help. I will be running the boat eventually on Cape Cod but currently storing the boat at our home, inland in New England. There seems to be nobody about familiar with sea worthy vessels.
TIA!

Welcome aboard…..suggest starting to get a handle on all this by watching the excellent video presented by “Cruising Elvin Ray,”
entitled “ Ranger Tug R-23 Power Panel Basics.”
