Been lurking here for a while, learning from all the experts here, so thankful for all of you that contribute. Just brought home a new to us 2018 Cutwater C28, looking forward to giving back to this community. Will spend a few days getting it cleaned and serviced, then into the water!

Great looking boat.

Looking forward to seeing you in the San Juans. 🙂

Welcome! Nice boat! Looking forward to crossing paths in the Salish Sea!

Welcome aboard!! Now you'll have to learn the Cutwater/Ranger "yoga". Hint.....it comes with aches and pains the next day requiring the use of adult beverages.....strictly for medicinal purposes of course. : 😀

Welcome! Nice boat and trailer. What are you pulling it with?

Thanks for the warm welcome all! We are based near Vancouver BC and will actually be keeping it in dry rack storage with unlimited launches and so will be only towing it occasionally. My brother towed it home with his GMC 3500 Duramax, and I will rent a truck for the occasional tows. At this point I drive an F150 and don’t feel like upgrading yet. When I do I will likely move to an F350 diesel as I’ve owned a number of them over the years. Look forward to seeing some of you on the water as we cruise Klaassy in our beautiful waters.

Beautiful boat and one of my favorites with 8.5' beam. I think my 2022 F150 5.0 V8 with Ford's Max Tow Package (13,000 max tow and 18,000 GCWR) would handle the C28 with triple axle trailer.

Here’s the data on our C-28 on factory triple axle E-Z Loader trailer from this year:

Ram 2500 Weights
1/2 Tank gas + driver
Front axle 2,950 pounds
Rear axle 4,050 pounds
Total 7,000 pounds
With 2 passengers 7,180

5/13 towed weight
Two passengers with light baggage inside truck cab
Dinghy (82 pounds) in truck bed
18 gallons water in boat
30 gallons fuel in boat
Normal cruising gear in boat
Front axle truck weight 3,900 pounds
Rear axle truck weight 4,420 pounds
Trailer weight 11,440 pounds
Total 19,760 pounds Gross Combined Weight
Boat and trailer total 12,580 pounds

9/23 towed weight
Two passengers with light baggage inside truck cab
Dinghy (82 pounds) in truck bed
10 gallons water in boat
23 gallons fuel in boat
Normal cruising gear in boat
Front truck axle weight 3,900 pounds
Rear truck axle weight 4,100 pounds
Trailer weight 11,200 pounds
Total 19,200 pounds Gross Combined Weight
Boat and trailer total 12,200 pounds

A 13,000 pound towing capacity 1/2 ton truck might work but not a huge safety margin in my opinion. Especially if that 13,000 pound towing capacity is only for a weight distribution hitch. Remember you probably can’t use a weight distribution hitch on an aluminum framed boat trailer!

We actually didn’t end up using rack storage as the C28 hull shape didn’t work with the lift system they use. We have had it moored since last fall and I’ve towed it several times with my 2020 F150 3.5 Ecoboost crew cab short box. While it tows it well on the 100km trip to the launch, it’s definitely over the max tow rating (11,200) and payload of the truck. The trailer is well balanced so I’ve never felt unsafe, but I won’t be attempting any mountain passes with it. I have lots of experience towing heavy trailers and am very comfortable doing so, but the F150 is not heavy enough for the C28 on steep windy mountain roads. Would I make it? Probably, but it wouldn’t be fun.
