Hello everyone, live in the PNW and getting ready to purchase an R-27. I've only owned open bowed boats for lake and kids, this one is now just for me and the wife! Just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of or look for? Awaiting the survey but just wanted to know as I crawl around it. Thanks!

Congratulations on your new boat. There are some things to look out for, but overall these are great boats. Having retired from the Coast Guard, i've been around a lot of boats, and I haven't seen any that I'd rather own. Check this site often, there are lots of knowledgeable owners with good advice.
Thanks for the response Brad! I am retired Air Force (and Boeing). I was actually just looking at the 25' C Dory for fishing until my better half got involved. Didn't thing she would be interested in heading out with me. Her friend just bought a new R-31 so she was the one that asked the question "why aren't you looking at the Ranger so that I can come along"! that was great news for me. Well, stumbled on to this site and already found a ton of good information. Thanks again for the greeting....appreciate it!

Hi there, Len. I am in much the same boat as you - literally. Just last week my offer was accepted on a 2012 R27, having sold my Sabre 34 sailboat last season. I had gotten tired of sailing alone and found it required too much time and work for a retirement gig. Like you, I was looking at older and smaller Rangers and other fishing boats as a replacement for the Sabre. Brought my bride along on my last shopping excursion to a nearby Ranger dealer which excited her sufficiently that she insisted on moving up to a R27 with all the creature comforts. My lucky day! For that reason the boat will be named "BELLS & WHISTLES" as soon as the survey is complete and we take delivery. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. The coast of Maine now never looked better.

Most/many/some "brides" like the comfort of an electric flush head. Make sure this aspect is discussed as some years ago I was tasked with converting my manual head to an electric flush otherwise my "bride" would simply stay home.
I did so and even I was convinced of its comfort and ease of using when underway with rocking & rolling seas.
Just a cautionary bit of advice if you intend to be out on the water for extended times. 🙂
We now have the R21EC with its little potty and because we no longer have the long extended day trips this works for us and the grandkids think it's really cool. 😱
