Hello all, I have just ordered a a 25sc and I want to keep it on a lift. My lift is in Stuart, Florida and it is a 7000lb lift. Does anyone have theirs on a lift and will this lift hold this vessel. thanks, Mike

Hi and welcome to the tugnuts family,
I think you are going to be cutting it close on weight. The reason I say this is, even know the factory says the boat weighs 5700lbs, that is with nothing extra loaded on it. Once you have the boat equipped the way you want it (dinghy, personal items and so on) and then fill it up with fuel, water and head waist you are at or over your 7000lbs lift max.
I would personally not want to run my numbers so close. That being said, the lift may be able to handle handle more weight then 7000lbs but they too are erroring on the safe side.
To me it sounds like a gamble I would not take. If anything did happen, the insurance co. would go after the bottom line.... The numbers.... Sorry you were over your weight by 214lbs and so you are not covered. We are so sorry. 🙂

Good luck with your research on the subject,

Stuart..... Spirit of Gratitude R-29

There is a question in my mind on the actual weight of an R25...
We have a posted scale weighing of an R25 sitting a trailer where together they weighed 11,000 pounds as towed on the road... This was a boat admittedly loaded for cruising...
I have the hydraulic meters on the lift at the marina that measured my R25 (essentially empty) as 8400 pounds when we launched in the spring of 09... When I questioned that number as being vastly more than what the manufacturer claimed, the lift operator swore up and down that his meters were correct...

I weighed Spirit of Gratitude while towing it on my way home from seattle a month after we bought her. The trailer weighs 1820lbs. The trailer and boat was 13920lbs. I had 15 gal of fuel onboard and no waist or water.
The factory numbers put it at 9250lbs dry. That puts me 2850 over what the factory numbers are. Lets just say for grins that I have 1000lbs of my own stuff onboard. I am still 1850lbs over what is stated on the spec sheet. Not sure where I have gained all the extra weight.
I think what it comes down to is the spec sheet is going to reflect the very best numbers it can. It would be good to know at what point does the factory weigh there boats.

I would not go by the 5700lbs number. I think that levitation has more real numbers.

I have the 75 HP Yanmar (without the Intercooler so likely lighter than most). After my first season I had the boat lifted by a marine lift, powerwashed & then placed on my trailor. The lift had a weight scale. With nobody on boat, no water, 10 gallons of fuel, and most of my junk offloaded as season was ending the scale read 6500 pounds. The operator said the scale was accurate and checked often.

Remember that the boat can carry about 1000 pounds of Fuel/water/sewer plus all the junk that these boats can carry. Not to mention all the overweight people.

I had a friend with a 24 foot cruiser who got a good deal on a used lift & installed at his rented slip. He forgot to check the weight rating and it worked OK when he lifted the boat, However, the system slowly released the load such that the boat was "gentle like" lowered back in the water overnight.

I have been using lifts in Fl for about 18 years now. I assume that this is a two motor lift, and that the cables are doubled back thru sheves to the upper alumium I beam. if it is a single motor lift--then it will not handle the weight of the 25. When the boat is on the lift==check the deflection of the I beams. If they remain straight then you should be OK. You should have at least 1/4" cables. Often upgrading the cables or sheves can bring the weight up to 10,000 lbs. Check with your lift installer to see what the true capacity is, and what needs to be done to bring the lift up to 10,000lbs. That is where you want to be.

The factory weights may not include batteries,A/C,generator,anchor and rode, navigation pkg or fluids . I have had the same experience with the boats scaling out more than advertised .

Thanks for your comments. Looks like I will have to upgrade to a 10,000Lb. lift. I am enjoying this site and am looking forward to getting my R25sc.
