HI Everyone,
I feel like I know all of you because I've been lurking around here for months! I would just like to start by saying that I participate in a lot of forums on a wide range of topics and I have to say that Tugnuts is the most supportive, informative and civilized forum I have ever read. Hats off to all of you!
My wife and I are proud owners of an R-29 that we purchased from Wilde Yacht sales in Essex CT. this past october. It's been a long winter and we are so ready to get on the water! Annelyse, ( the R-29 ) is going in the water this week and I had just a couple of quick questions that I hope you all could answer.
Where do you guys recommend I have our fire extinguishers mounted? we have 2.
Also I saw on Circle T's photo album, I think, cushions that fit on top of the trunk cabin? are those from the factory? Looks like a great place to get some much needed sun!
Thanks for your help everyone, I'm looking forward to meeting many of you east coasters at the gathering in Essex this June!

Welcome aboard,
We mounted our fire extinguishers behind the folding door to the lower bunk and in the forward closet. They are both mounted as high as possible to make them more accessable. I also placed "Fire Ext"stickers so they are visible from the Galley and the forward birth.
The small cushions in the cockpit on top of the truck are factory items. I would suggest you contact Ranger to find out how to get them. (253) 839-5213.

Think about where a potential fire will be with respect to you and the extinguishers. It is never good to have the fire between you and the extinguishers. The more the better, too. We always make sure to have one in the galley, and one in the cockpit, as a minimum on any boat with an enclosure. Put them in the staterooms and saloon, too, and you will always be ready to fight a fire. I know a lot of people want things that cause unpleaant thoughts out of sight, but it is a lot better to look at them every day then to need skin grafts and therapy later.

Fire extinguishers are every bit as "nautical" as most of the other do-dads folks put on their boats. Be proud if you carry an excess.

Ziggity,
I 100% agree with Abcandjrc that the extinguishers must be available in case of fire, I also carry two additional extinguishers that came with the boat. I feel putting the ones I have mounted where I did takes into consideration where a fire hazard may exist around the galley area. I put the one down below because that is where I sleep and the egress may be difficult if a fire starts in the main cabin. I am sure you will figure out where they will work best for you and what you consider a hazard.

Thanks for the advise. I'll pick up a couple more and place them in the stateroom, galley/saloon, cockpit and I think Bob's point of having an extra is a great idea. You can't be too prepared for fire. I emailed Ranger about the cushions for the bow trunk cabin and Jeff Messmer emailed me back about two minutes later and the cushions are ordered! And very reasonably priced too! Talk about customer service!
