After a year of researching various trailerable trawlers, and lurking around this and other websites, we purchased a 2007 R25 this week from a fantastic couple in Canada. Thankfully I listened to the recommendations on this site about what truck to use for towing. The 2014 GMC 1 ton 4WD diesel pulled the boat 1200 miles with no shortage of power and great engine /transmission braking. We had one panic stop near Montreal; the combination stopped amazingly quick. We hope to learn the boat and its various systems so we can start coastal cruising next June when we both retire. Thanks to everyone (including the Factory) for the great information on this site. I will have a bunch of questions going forward and hopefully can add some value to the forum in the future.

Welcome 🙂 The R-25 (Classic) is a fun boat and should keep you enjoying boating for a long time.

Welcome aboard Rick and Sue, if you make it to Michigan from Wisconsin and get close to Traverse City please let us know. Also keep in mind the North Channel Ranger Tug/Cutwater Rendezvous in Little Current next August.

I was out today on my R25 and I was thinking what a great boat is. I knew absolutely nothing about running a diesel or most of the systems on the boat. I am still learning but now a lot more now. I have found that we go out much more than the bigger boats around us. (even given the new to us enthusiasm) and because of it's size it feels so manageable. I had dinner last night w/ carver 40 owner. 50 gph @ 20. 6.5 @ 1 gph did not sound bad to him. We saw a 38' trawler anchored near us w/ a for sale sign. It was a 1983 listed for $85K. Even tho the extra space would be nice I realized for around the same money I am really pleased and happy w/ my boat and the factory has been very helpful and responsive as well as Tugnuts and other owners.

Feeling smug (tug) day.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. We wanted a trailerable boat so we can enjoy different parts of the country and keep our costs inline with retirement. Being the engineer type, I have to understand (and tweak) each system; I'm a bit overwhelmed with how complex the boat is, so I will focus on one system at a time (just like any other project) so we can cruise with confidence.

Congrats on retirement too!
