New R23 owner - getting familiar with boat, heater questions

Hi there, we’re new owners of a slightly used r23. We’ve been loving the boat and have taken her out about 5 times to date. We’re located in Vancouver, BC, moor in North Vancouver and plan to cruise year round, mostly shorter trips up to a week at a time.

As such the heater is very much appreciated. Had a question though... the webasto is controlled from the thermostat controller, but what is the purpose of the heater switch at the helm?

Also, it does get a bit foggy on the windows in colder rainy weather, is there a remedy for this? Is there a fan that I’ve somehow missed?

do you have the inboard diesel or outboard?

if inboard diesel, the heater by the helm is part of the cooling circuit of the engine; essentially free heat coming from engine use. the webasto is the self contained diesel heater seperate from the engine

I believe that the heater switch by the he is only used with the inboard diesel to utilize that heat source.

Newer 23s have defrosters, ours doesn't, 2018 model. There are 12v fans for this situation but we haven't needed it yet. We crack a couple hatches or windows.

On my 2018 R27/OB I also have a helm switch on the left side labeled "Heater". It's the 2nd one from the lowest switch. This switch is a toggle and has two positions when rocked. The first position does nothing while the final position causes a blower to push air out of a vent in top right hand corner of the helm console and another immediately forward of this vent on the dash surface. Both presumably are meant for defrosting the helm side window and the windshield as there are deflectors in the vent to direct air to these places. I've used this to cool my face when having all cabin windows closed at times because of rain or when running in heavy seas with water splashing over the bow and cabin.

We have the outboard. There doesn’t seem to be any ductwork on our boat for a forced air system with the exception of the two outlets for the webasto system.

I guess I can just give it a shot and see if it does anything. It’s not the self destruct button, right?

Hello new 23 owner,
I also have the 23 and found that fogging is an issue. I found that turning the Webasto on will help with fogging windows as the fan stays on even when not heating. (Set the temp at or below the cabin temp). Full disclosure, I did add additional ducting with a 3rd vent above the microwave so that may also be helping....

For fogging, a Carframo fan and Rain-X antifog seem to help. KleerVu antifog is also very good but more$$$$$$$$.

Thanks for all the replies... I’ll try a few of the window conditioners. We do run the heat from the webasto and it does a good job of keeping the windows clear.
