New R27 owner on Long Island

We just purchased a 2012 R27 and can't wait to take delivery late April. We are on the Great South Bay here on Long Island. We plan on going thru the locks to the Peconic. We had a few sailboats before and was never able to do that because of the bridges. Now we can! Are there any Ranger Tugs out there that raft up and things like that on the bay?

Keep my 29 in Athens NY on the Hudson. Like to get to NY City a couple times per year. Spending this summer on the canals, Erie, Oswego, Rideau, Richelieu, and Champlain. Love running the canals which is exactly why I bought the Ranger.

We are in Rhode Island and frequent Block Island. Welcome to the family or as some seem to think, "The Cult". another "C" word used for Ranger Tugs.

We have been to Block many times. I think we would like to try it from the Peconic vs. coming around the south shore passed Montauk Pt. We would take the Canal and go around Orient.

Going through the Peconic and staying on the North side is a better choice. You still have to pick the right weather and wind window because it can get a little rough if you are passing the north side of Montauk. That is also a grate route because if you aren't in a hurry you can go to Shelter Island and Greenport as well.

Exactly. I can make a nice 1 week cruise out of all that.

We do travel to Long Island often. Sometimes we drive to visit our friends in Babylon, other times take the boat to Greenport, Sag, Three Mile, Shelter Island and Montauk. There are other owners out there by you, not sure if they are on the board though. If you do make it to Shelter Island, pop into Picozzis and check the docks for a blue Cutwater 28. Super nice couple that live on the island year round
