Hi Guys,

Got the seats in my Cutwater 28 re-done. I had the dreaded flaking vinyl problem that plagues many of us. I had to sift through a few people before I found someone I was comfortable with. Here's a couple of pictures.

I had all the interior seating done. This was with Keyston Vinyl. Total job was 4 grand. Very happy with the work. Seams are straight, everything lined up. Originally I was going to remove the seats myself to save money. Not worth it! More involved that I thought.

In talking with the guys when they finished, they told me why it's hard to find someone in New Jersey. According to them a law was passed in New Jersey in 1989 creating a extra tax on boats over 26 feet. They said it just killed the industry. Yacht owners either didn't buy, or registered their boats in different states. Boat manufacturers in NJ went under. All the tradesman were put out of work. These guys hung on doing canvas repairs. From what I've seen of New Jersey politics, could be true.

Why did they not just take the furniture out of the boat and have it repaired in sections or claim these are garden furniture?

I think what Martin is saying is that when NJ raised the tax on boat production it was a trickle down effect on all the others who worked on boats such as canvas makers and upholseters. Not a tax on boat upholster per say.

For now at least thankfully the boat sales tax in NJ is only 3.5% and they cap it at i believe $20k. We will see how long that last though.
