We created new storage on Spirit of Gratitude. It was very easy to do. For anyone that would like to do it, you first take out the mattress in aft cabin (see pics below). Grab your screw gun and pull the four screws out of the back panel where your access for the head ball valve is. Then take out the screws holding down the plywood floor. You do not want to remove it. You just want to lift it up to the port side so you can see the hull. This is necessary so when you mark your cut you can see underneath where the hull is. We would not want to cut the hull!
Decide how big you want it to be then mark it, Then cut it out with a skill saw. You may want a keyhole saw for the corners. Make sure you set your saw blade on your skill saw at 3/4 inch depth so to just make it through the plywood only.
Then you want to cut backer blocks for your new access door to rest on. I used a 1/2 inch piece of wood that I cut into 3 1/2 inch width. Your length will be determined by the size of the access you cut.
Screw your backer blocks in from the top down. Cut a finger hole with a jig saw in the panel, and then set into place. Re-screw your main plywood back down and reinstall the back ball valve panel and you now have storage.
