Looking at a 2021 R29 and noticed this...dealer said Ranger doesn't install them due to the obvious sinking issue should the system fail. (filling boat with the running hose)

Do folks add this on to their Tugs after purchase or just do without?

I have one on our boat. Never used! Never will use.
Just not worth the risk of having a decade old fitting breaking or a hose coming loose because of the constant pressure.
We refill the fresh water tank about every 3-4 days during cruises. Can stretch the refill interval out to 5 days if necessary. It’s easy to refill so I don’t think we miss anything by not using the city water hose inlet.

Do without!

We were at dinner ashore many years ago when we had our R-25 Classic. We were hooked up to (pressurized) city water. When we returned the bilge pump was running full tilt. Jumped aboard, opened engine hatch to see several inches of water. Tasted the water and it was fresh. Shut down the pressurized water and the bilge pump caught up quickly. A quick inspection found a hose had come off the water heater. Easy fix.

Never used pressurized water again.

Cheers,

Bruce

Wait, there are boats that have this? In 20+ years of boating I have always been told it is an absolutely terrible idea to try to jury rig one of these, and I've never seen a boat that had one out of the factory (though I've mostly seen sailboats).

(and a lot of marinas won't let you use one, even if it has been jury-rigged)

Here’s what my factory installed as standard equipment inlet looks like on our 2009 RT25 Classic. Just forward of normal screw on fresh water fill cap.

I want to run as much fresh water through my water tank so it does not get stale and thus would never use one for this reason and the obvious potential flooding issue. I don't even use the hook up on our travel trailer. The water tank is more than sufficient.

I have one of these on our 2010 R25 SC. Previous owner never used it based on the inherent risk already discussed in previous posts.

Upon purchasing the boat, I replaced mine (the cover was cracked) and capped it. Then I capped the hose inside the boat.

I did this for two reasons:
1. To ensure that no one can use it (aka wife); and
2. Should a future owner want that option, the hose is readily available and could be re-attach easily.

I thought about it, but got the same feed back as others have posted re: danger.

Then someone suggested a pressure sensitive valve of some sort that will shut off if it detects a run-away situation: "easy install". Finally decided: K.I.S.S. and keep the boat "stock"

(Not quite as simple as my wooden sailboat's water tank and brass hand pump, but a few luxuries are in order.....)
