Greetings - many of you have seen posts that are somewhere between non-sensical and irrelevant, and which contain links to places of business, items for sale, or potentially worse. These posts are certainly unwelcome, and the links shouldn't be followed.
The actual posts are typically made by busy low-paid workers, or even busier computer programs. The employer of the posters are in far away places, typically overseas, who have little interest in our forum. Their clients are paying them to generate in-bound traffic, or to fool search engines into ranking them more highly, or other nefarious stuff.
They don't care about our forum or our members. They're just playing the odds. Spread enough links and you'll get some click-through. And, they don't care about, or even read, our responses. Confused queries, sarcastic remarks, or all-cap, bold admonishments.
These replies only serve to keep the thread bumped to the top, and active.
Busy factory folks and a few volunteers actively monitor and moderate every post to Tugnuts - 365 days a year, 7 days a week. But we don't have the 24 hours-a-day thing quite down. We monitor every new registration and check initial posts. When we spot these posts we delete them. And we delete the user account.
Some times, though, one of you may see them first. If you do, please don't respond, no one is listening. Send me an email or PM and it will get taken care of.
Thanks,
Bruce
