Summer is around the corner and I am in the enjoyable process of planning my North Channel cruise starting hopefully in mid to Late June. The plan is to trailer my CW 28 from Phx up to Cheboygan , MI. ...launch and cut north across Lk. Huron to the Le Cheneaux Islands . spent a week or so exploring then east to the start of the North Channel cruise at De Tour Village . I would like to spend most of July in the North Channel working my way west to Georgian Bay cruising the north shore south east to Parry Sound. May go further down depending on time. Will then cut across the Bay S.West to Owen Sound.

Return leg up the east shore of the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory . Thinking then about following the South shore of Manitoulin Island west back to Cheboygan area rather than cutting across a lot of Lk. Huron open water ,especially going into the prevailing West winds.

Anyone done this adventure,(I am sure there is!!) and what N. Channel... Georgian bay cruise guides might you recommend. I currently have the Lakeland Boating Lk. Huron spiral bound cruise guide copyright 2004. Would like something a little more recent if possible.

If anyone will be up in that area in July thru first couple of weeks in August let me know and we can exchange itineraries.

Thanks!
Bill T.

Hi bill I will be cruising with my 21ec Wanderer from July 5th to September?? We launch at little current and cycle east and west from there every 10 days or so. More than willing to show you around when you get here. Your itinerary sounds full. You never stated how much time you have, but the place you expect to hit indicate you plan all summer up here. wind and weather may change some of your plans. A trip from Killarney to Parry Sound along the small craft route could take two weeks if you stop to,explore.
Let me know or send Emails to me when you get close to the north channel. Email is John dot manson dot sympatico, dot ca

Hi Bill, Sounds like a great trip! We're putting plans together for a summer cruise out of Washington Island on our R27, Alegria. Plan to start in late July heading across the lake to explore the Manitous, the east shore and Grand Traverse Bay before going up to the Le Cheneaux Islands and the far west end of the Channel (De Tour Village and Drummond Island). Hopefully next year we'll poke further into the North Channel. Doubt if our paths will cross, but if you're making your way back west in early August, let us know.

Bill: it sounds like you’ve got your route well thought out. Turner’s in Little Current, North Channel, has all the best cruising guides for your summer cruising. I’d suggest looking them up online and or calling them, ask for Deb Turner. I have you on our tentative list for the August 17-19 Rendezvous in ORILLIA on the Trent Severn. I’ll be emailing out registration forms soon for this event, hope you’ll be able to attend.

Jim

All,
Thanks for the responses! Really looking forward to this cruise as everything I read about The N. Channel and the 30,000 islands , it can't be beat,(if the weather holds!)

Jim....I am sorry to say Mary and I will not be able to make the Orillia Rendezvous this year as it is the exact same weekend as Mary's 120th annual family reunion in Pittsburgh. She always looks forward to seeing her Pennsylvania Family and friends every other year so hopefully we will see the Fluid Motion gang at the 2019 event. (think Lake Powell in 2019!!)

Thanks,
Bill T.
