As others mentioned, Nova Kool has good tech support. My main galley fridge stopped cooling. They told me to pull it out and call back. Then, I was told to switch some wires around such that the compressor would work and wait 3 hours to see if ice would appear in the freezer. Since no ice or cooling happened, they said that I have a refrigerant leak and my options are a. get an appliance repair tech to fix the leak and recharge the system or b. buy a new fridge that now costs about $1500 with shipping due to our wonderful tariffs. I can't get a clear answer from appliance repair folks who seem unsure if they can fix the leak or not and what it will cost. They quote $400 but with no assurance that the leak will be fixed. All that leads me to getting a new fridge as mine is 6 years old. Has anyone dealt with this issue and what route did you take?

I have family in the air conditioning business. They have told me that Nova Kool uses a standard, widely used compressor and that checking and adding refrigerant is something any good tech can do. Since you already have ready access to the back of the refer, I would recommend having an ac tech service the unit.

Good to know! The price has gone up a lot on these units, so I'll see if I can find anyone who sounds trustworthy. Getting service, here is the South Bay Area, is always a big problem since the techs can't afford to live here. I usually have to make a 45 mile, one way, run to get anything done or pay for hours of travel time at full rate.
