NW Mechanic needed -2008 Cummins Mercruiser diesel

I would greatly appreciate any referrals for a mechanic/shop familiar with the Cummins Mercruiser 4 cyl 2 liter diesel that RT sold for a couple of years around 2008. Our 25’ RT has been out of commission since last September and the only mechanic available in the Port Townsend, WA area has done everything he can w/o a Mercruiser diagnostic tool for this model. It can be towed anywhere in western Washington. Thanks

Personal experience indicates you should call the Mercruiser factory and ask them to locate a Mercruiser Premier Diesel service facility that will service this engine. There are some who don't maintain the diagnostics and will not work on it. There is NO other way to get service on this engine. The electronics and the diagnostics are proprietary and upgraded by Merc (either to improve them or be sure only paying authorized service providers can access this engine). I spent a lot of money with no results to learn this. Hope to save you the same pain. It hurts when you spend $2K to have people tell you "You are right, it won't start. Sorry I can't figure out why"

Just call every Mercruiser dealer with a published phone no. until you find one that works on Mercruiser diesels and says they have the diagnostic software.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I did contact Ranger Tug but they no longer support this model and had only two repair services to refer me to, neither was interested or able to help me.
I did find a authorized Mercruiser service in Port Angeles that is familiar with this motor. We are now on their cue for service and scheduled for early September. See contact info below.

Can I ask. Are these bad motors then. Cummins I thought would be everywhere ?

My opinion and my opinion only. No, the Cummins Mercruiser Diesel engines are not “bad” engines. In the great world of boating they are rather uncommon though. Parts can be found for the engine with enough searching. Finding a competent mechanic in your local area to work on them can be more challenging.
