For a Ranger Tug R29, does an OBD2 bidirectional car diagnostic scanner work. It is Volvo D4-300. What kind of things can it do. I am wondering what Autel scanner to buy. I am looking at MX808 2022 bidirectional MS906 BT. $500 -$1100. Look at you tube to see functions. Pretty cool. Trouble shoot door locks, by operating locks from computer. What can it do for Ranger tugs.

Can't answer for the Volvo, but any scanner worked on the Yanmar, but you had to buy a conversion cord to plug in.

So does OBD2 diagnostic car scanner work on 2017 Volvo D4-300 ranger R29? What adapter plug is needed? What can I diagnose with scanner?

Volvo Engines in boats use the EVC system to control and manage the powerplant.

You will require the Volvo adapter and software in order to access the system. Volvo used to have a hand scanner called the Vodia, but that has been discontinued and now requires a laptop and their software.
