Hi there TugNuts!

The theme for October’s TugNuts photo contest is: Best fish (or fishing moment) of the summer. As the season changes, I’d like to check in on our anglers. What was your best moment while fishing this summer? It could be your biggest fish yet, a grandkid's first fish, a fully laden crab pot or just a good fish story. I’m looking forward to hearing from our anglers this month.

I'll share one to get the ball rolling. This photo was taken on a trip we did out to Lake Roosevelt, WA. In the morning we gathered up our gear, loaded the truck and trailered a C-24 DC across the state of Washington. A 6.5 hour drive from Arlington to Kettle Falls. By afternoon, we were blasting around on the lake to meet our VP Jeff Messmer and family and camp out on the beach. They were fishing for Walleye on the C-24 CW. Our Marketing Director Sam Bisset and I were in chase in the DC "fishing" for photos. The sun settled on the hill in a spectacular display. Cameras in hand, we snapped up some whoppers, and we caught a few fish too.

"There is a group of Tugs and Cuts that met up multiple times for shrimping in the San Juan’s during the 2021 season. We caught lots of shrimp and one special prize!

While moving gear to the dock from the boat at Prevost Harbor, Stuart Island I attempted to toss one of my bait cages into the line basket and missed. Bang, bounce, bloop, and it went into the water between the boat and the dock, 12 feet deep! Aarrgghh! I figured it was gone for good and shrimping would be limited for the weekend. One of my shrimping buddy’s (that’s you Harry!) said “Too bad it’s not made of steel because I have a fishing magnet!” “What!!!” I said, “the wire mesh is made of plastic coated steel!” Five minutes later we had the bait cage on the dock and a photo to document our catch!"

This is a 36 inch Striped Bass I caught off Sandy Hook, NJ earlier this year. I was trolling a plug tight at the beach. I could not have caught this fish without the cockpit helm station. The Cutwater 28 actually makes a very good fishing platform.

Sandy Hook is pretty far away from my home port in Mantoloking. With the Cutwater I can run up there, anchor up overnight, and fish the next day or two. Trying to fish there all in one day would be exhausting.

"My 3 yr old granddaughter on her first fishing trip with Gramma and Grandad just off of the west coast of Vancouver Island on our R21-EC..

Olivia at the helm. Gramma says, "Olivia, look at the camera". Olivia says,"Gramma, I have to pay attention." (Smart Girl.)

Attached are a couple of pictures of a very fun and productive fishing trip this summer in Prince William Sound on my R-27 C the Annie M with my son and grandson. The picture with the two halibut and my son Bryan, I’d like to title ‘Just for the Hal-i-but.’ Some people will go to extremes to show off their catch! And my son is no exception. The other picture shows the variety and abundance of fish in Prince William Sound. There are black rock fish, yellow eye,China rock fish, ling cod and a halibut waiting to be filleted on the trip back to Seward.

The Annie M is settled in for the winter but we have our freezers filled with lots of fresh fish!

"Had this close up social gathering Oct 6 with this ocean sunfish just outside of Salem Massachusetts harbor. This one was around 6 feet and that’s no fish story. Had the engine shut off on the CW28 and drifted for 15 minutes before it disappeared."

We had a FaceTime with Olivia this evening as she lives in Vancouver and we live on Vancouver Island. Not sure she understood the concept of the photo contest but she was all smiles when we told her that someone had picked her photo with her first ever fish.

No one can compete with Olivia. So much darn cuteness. Good job gramma and grandad. Taking kids fishing is the best.
Start them young and they will learn so much about respect for creation.
