I have an Intellisteer Type S F/Straight Shaft Helms F/Cable Steered Boats W/Dash Mounted Wheel that I purchased in October, installed in my R 21 and tested in the barn. I don’t like the way it operates compared to my hydraulic steering system in my other boat so I took it back out and I am installing a hydraulic steering system. I also have the. Rutter feedback potentiometer that I have not installed and it’s still in the original package. I will also include the original steering mechanism the cable and mounting bracket. See enclosed pictures. I paid about $800 for the intellisteer and $200 for the feedback unit. Both were purchased from Hodges Marine. I’d like to get $750 for everything and you pay actual shipping cost.

Hi Camiii

Yes, I still have it. i installed the autopilot (for about 10 minutes) and took it back out. I prefer hydraulic steering so I opted for that.

Out of curiosity, what didn’t you like about it? I’m just heading down the autopilot rabbit hole and most recommend this unit. Will this interface with a chart plotter down the road?

Yes it will interface. I like the feel of hydraulic steering and precision for my fishing patterns. I posted some pictures yesterday of my winter project. Switching to hydraulic was challenging, Mostly because of the tight access under the rear hatches.

Ok, I think this should work for my needs. I saw the post where you had very tight clearances behind the dash. Looking at the installation manual they have spacers that apparently give you some more space behind the dash

B3c Spacer Kits

If there is not the required 250mm (10in) clearance behind the dashboard for the Type S drive unit, this can be reduced with the use of spacer kits (Fig B13).

  • 90° Mount Spacer Kit OC15SUK16: This kit is for use in conjunction with the OC15SUK10 90° Bezel Kit only. Each spacer segment reduces the required depth by 19mm (0.75in) and a maximum of two spacer kits can be used on an installation for a maximum depth reduction of 38mm (1.5in).”

Did you have the spacers?

No spacers. I rotated the wiper motor 90 degrees and that gave me the room I needed. This picture was taken after the hydraulic steering install, but I initially turned it so I can get the intellisteer in there.
