Oil Change 150 Yanmar engine

Two questions: Who has had good luck with their dip stick suction device and what brand? How many liters of oil does the 150 Yanmar engine take? Thanks!

I have used the Moeller Oil Changer on my tug and other boats for years. Works good and lasts long time. It comes with several tube sizes to accommodate different engines. Sorry, I do not have a 150, so I cannot tell you how much oil it holds. If you have a manual, it should tell you.

I don't know if you have any experience with oil changes. For those that don't, you should warm up your engine for a few minutes. I like to idle for about 5 minutes. Warm oil will be easier to pump out. Then shut down the engine and wait for about 5 minutes so the oil in the engine will settle to the bottom of the engine (the pan). Then follow the instructions on the pump you are using. These pumps will not extract all of the oil. There will always be a little bit left in the pan.

It is best to use the tube that you slide into your dipstick. Do not use the dipstick as your sucking tube, It will leave much oil in the pan. Go to the bottom of the pan with the tube. After you have most the oil and you here it sucking air, move the tube around to see if you can get more. I am able to get 12Qts out of my 260 yanmar on my 29. I am sure that their is just a little left in the pan but not much for it holds 12Qts. That is the best you can hope for on a boat oil change that does not have the pan drain plug plumbed for oil changing.

When I did my first oil change this summer on my Yanmar 150, I followed the instructions with photos posted by Baz on June 20, 2010 ("R25 yanmar 150 hp with DIY oil change with surprise ending"). It was extremely helpful. The suction tube slides down the dipstick. I removed 8 quarts with no problem, there may have been a very small amount left in thebottom of the engine. I replaced the oil with Castrol syntec synthetic (either 5w40 or 15w40 can't remember which), as Andrew said this is what they put in the engines at the factory. I put in about 8.5 quarts.
