Have a question about the oil filter o-rings on the oil filter cap for the 4BY2-180 Yanmar engine. When you buy the Yanmar filter they come with the two o-rings needed for the pointy stick but when you buy the Mann HU 722z filter you don't get the two smaller green o-rings for the cap. I've reused these a couple of time but I'd like replace them at my next oil change. I called the Ranger parts department and they don't stock them, any ideas where i can buy these? I guess I could always buy a Yanmar filter if I can't find them. Thanks

You should be able to order them from any Yanmar dealer. The part numbers are 165000-69440 and 165000-69460.
Check the price before you order, I just looked online and one sells for $27.59, if you were getting them with the filter you may want to buy the filter.

Thanks Brian, that sounds like the way I should go and I'll have everything I'll need. Do you have a source for them or should I call Ranger? Also I'm going to need a new secondary fuel filter (the one on the engine) are owner using the Fram P11057 or just biting the bullet and buying a Yanmar filter?

I have gone through my local dealer when I needed parts, I don't believe Ranger supplies Yanmar parts any longer. I use the Yanmar fuel filters, I'm not going to fret over a few dollars when you consider what those filters protect. Sometimes you can find them online a bit cheaper.

Hi Brian, sorry it took so long for me to follow up. Here's what I found out about the two green "O" rings. I went to Shearwater Marine in Stuart to see if they had a Yanmar oil filter for my 4BY2-180 in stock. They did and I told them if it came with the three "O" I needed I would buy it. Well it didn't have the two green ones I needed for the oil filter stick, but it was a MANN HU 722z in the Yanmar box. I asked if they had the "O" rings in stock and he did, one set for $29.50 so I bought them and ordered the filter from Amazon for $12.80. You're right about the "O" ring price but I thought for the price they charge for the Yanmar filter it should come with everything needed, I was wrong. I will buy and keep an extra set in my spares box now.

O rings are a pretty generic thing. Most automotive supply stores have a good selection and they are usually a few dollars. Also industrial supply type stores and some auto stores can custom make them using an old one as a template. Again a few dollars. You can likely get enough o rings for ten oil changes for the same price.

If buying online maintenance items I buy a half dozen at a time and pay shipping if applicable only once.

The money you save can be put to use on something more practical like beer or wine!
