I have a couple of questions I know someone can help we with. 1. After running our R 27 with the Yanmar engine for awhile, I noticed the oil pressure would fluctuate between 68 and 74 psi on the Yamnar display. This was at about 3000 rpm's. Is this normal for it to bounce around like that? I have about 30 hours on this oil change. 2. I was cleaning all the straners and noticed the generator and A/C have a different mesh, not sure were each go now, one is much finer than the other.Thank in advance.

The Yanmar Engine 4BY2-180's Operations Manual states typical oil pressures to be...

At 1000 RPM -- 8.7 to 14.5 psi
At 4000 RPM -- 51 to 87 psi

So your oil pressure fluctuation of 68 to 74 psi is within the specified range given in the Manual.

I know my coolant temp stays pretty darn constant at 188ºF no matter what the RPMs are. I also see the oil pressure varies some but it's gradual either going up or down slightly over time -- but does not fluctuate wildly when I observe it on the Yanmar engine display.

When you say fluctuate, is it wildly fluctuating or changing gradually up and down ? Your oil pressure change is only some 6ºF and I personally wouldn't worry too much. However, if it really bothers you wait for others to chip in or talk with a local Yanmar engine technician for further advice.

Just keep an eye on it. I had an issue with low oil pressure last year and it was actually a bad connection to the computer.

On my R27, the sender went bad showing wildly fluctuating psi from 50 to 90 depending on rpm. At the time Andrew told me Yanmar had a number of bad senders. After replacement the pressure now gradually increase/decreases with rpm within the range noted by Baz.

Regarding the genset and air sea strainers.......the fine mesh sea strainer is for the air conditioning. I had this same question when I first cleaned mine out and just doubled checked on our R27.

Thank you very much for the great information. I'll keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge and see if it starts moving around more. My concern was how fast it was going from 68 to 74 and back. The next time I'm at the boat I will make sure the connector is tight and dry. Thanks Jim for the strainer information. I didn't notice the difference until I had them both off and was looking at them. Then it was a you know what moment. You guys are a wealth of information. Thanks!
