Is it easier to extract the oil thru the dip stick or drain it from the sump fitting ? If from the sump, does anyone know the size of the thread to attach a hose to the valve ? Thanks.

The dip stick path is so convoluted, it wouldn't surprise me if you couldn't get a tube down it.

Draining from the sump valve is quick and easy -- the only difficulty is that it's so low, it's a challenge to put a container low enough. The Onan manual's section on changing the oil specifies the pipe size. I believe it's 3/8.

Jeffe Thanks. As I wrote, mine has a valve at the sump drain, so I'll attached a barbed fitting there. I'm hoping to use my rotary electric pump to drain the old and pump the new oil back in. At least Onan has made some effort to ease oil changes. Too bad the Yanmar folks don't include a means other than dipstick extraction. I plan to use Rotella T6 synthetic in the Onan - same as the Yanmar.
