No complaints really but I have a reasonably clean poop tank and all is rainbows an unicorns in the cabin (classic 27)

However, when I open the lower cabinets I always see to catch a whiff of goodness. I only aware of the tank vent in the aft of the boat. I do wonder on breezy days if the positive pressure might force some goodness out the potty?

Speaking of potty, when I fill the bowl with water it will slowly drain. Is this “the way” or do some gaskets/O-rings need to be replaced??

Cheers

It does sound like a seal needs replacing. The head should be able to hold water. If water can seep through, likely fumes will to.

You may need to replace the Joker valve in the waste line that leaves the head. When operating properly, it will keep water in the bowl and prevent fumes from coming from the holding tank back thru the waste line and into the bowl. If its gooped up and stuck slightly open, then all bets are off. I pour plain vinegar into the bowl and let it sit for a bit and then flush to keep things clean and working properly a couple of times a season. HTH, Gary

Try cleaning the joker valve as recommended by Gayles Faerie. If that doesn’t work, replace it. The joker valve for my Jabsco toilet is +/- $20.

All great thanks guys!!

So if a joker valve is +/- $20, when it is -$20, do they pay you to take it? LOL

Having just replaced the whole bottom unit of the head. It really isn’t that bad of a job as long as you replace while it’s still working and not when it completely fails.

I’d replace and not clean/lube asap.

I experience a very slight "odor" when I open my galley lower cabinets or the shower sump area as well. I've checked ALL of my hoses/connections/clamps, everything is tight, and my bilge is clean, and I rinse my holding tank every time I pump it out and treat it immediately after. I have the Tecma electric macerator head, which does not have a joker valve or any serviceable parts. This has always been a bit of a mystery to me, but I suppose the only thing left to do is to start changing hoses...it's not bothering me enough to do that yet.

Dbsea, your exactly right - assume the joker is starting to go-the gas should be in the bottom of the bowl - how does it get out past the head and underneath the cabinets?
