I just purchased a 3.5 Mercury 4 stroke engine for my skiff. It weighs about 44 lbs and I am wondering how others put it on their skiff safely. I am 70 years old and plan to store it on the back railing of the swim step. I have seen harnesses for outboards but was wondering if their is a pulley system designed for lifting and lowering while attaching to the transom on the skiff.

Karll, For the price of the St. Croix lil crane you could get a really nice crab/shrimp pot puller and accomplish the same job! Bob

We have found Forespar Motor Mate to be ideal for our R-23. Easy to mount, removable, easy to stow, light weight, flexible and provides security during a critical transition: from boat to tender. It can lift 100#.

Our dual use of our Yamaha F6 as a kicker and tender propulsion makes the function of the lift a critical item. Of course, the factory option swim platform railings are needed in this installation. At ~$550 a bit expensive but we think of it as insurance for protecting our $2k motor and our weekend.

I installed a Garhauer lifting davit engine hoist LD 6-1 long. It has a 34 inch reach. I removed an aft rod holder and used this location for install. I made a bushing out of starboard and a small bracket for the base. I lift a 9.9 hp outboard with it and use it to assist in lifting the dingy (weaver davit). This install required some minor fabrication but works good. The complete assembly can be removed in minutes if you prefer to store it. Cost was 334.00 + shipping. Very well built.
