Hello,

On my new to me 2021 ranger 25 I am finding outboard performance to be very different from what I can find published online.

That being said , all that’s published is for the 27 with the 300hp, but I wouldn’t have expected it to be so different.

For example. I am seeing only about 23mph at 4500 and usually with 1.4-1.6mpg economy.

Does this jive? I also find that the sweet spot is just a couple touches of trim up, never seeing anything but one bar on the trim meter.

Finally the 27 documentation shows the outboard mounted on hole 4, in on hole 2, does this match other 25 owners.

Now I’ll admit, my boat is loaded with gear and has ablative bottom paint, but just making sure this all sounds right.

For copmparison, on my 21 R25 OB LE (no bottom paint, 2 adults, full fuel & water, no/light wind) the sweet spot is 4200 rpm, 2 notch on trim, cruise 26-27 mph, 2.1mpg. At 4500 rpm, I would be 30-33 mph, 1.7-1.9 mpg.

Hi Matt,

It's very difficult to predict what kind of numbers you will get in these circumstances. There are many factors that will affect performance. For example, you mention that you were "fully loaded". One person's fully loaded may be different than another person's. Even if both have full quarter berths, if one person's gear ends up weighing half of the other's then that's going to make a noticeable difference. A bit of a simple comparison, but I think you get the idea.

Also, it's not worthwhile to compare numbers between the 25 and 27, as they are sufficiently different where you cannot expect similar performance. The other items that weigh into the equation are salinity of the water, water temperature, and a host of others including current, winds, etc. Best thing to do is make sure the bottom is clean and that the engine is in proper working order (I'm sure they are). Then if that still doesn't seem right, the only other thing you can do is to empty the boat and do a run in similar conditions as others to see if your numbers come close. I'm sure they will, but if not, then it may be time to do a bit more diagnosis on the engine and work from there. Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers!

Ralf

As I continue to try and increase performance , can other 25ob owners tell me where their outboards are mounted? What set of holes?

Thanks!
