Packing Gland Size

I have searched everywhere for the answer to my question. What is the correct size packing gland for my, new to me, 2016 R25 with the VP D3-150? It's almost to the end of the stuffing box threads. I assume that different sized shafts and stuffing boxes use different diameter sizes. Andrew Custis looked it over with me when he and Tim were in Valdez. Thank you.

The surest way to know is to measure the I.D. of the stuffing box, subtract the diameter of the shaft, and divide by two. My 2013 with a Yanmar 150 and 1-1/4" shaft uses 1/4 inch packing.

Thanks. My shaft is also 1 1/4" so I'm going to order the 1/4". This seems to be the size others are using.
