Is there any value in possessing a passport CARD as opposed to just a passport when crossing Canada/US borders? The government website says it is very cool and has a radio frequency chip, etc. but failed to convince me that it was worth the $30 that it costs. Does anyone have any experience with this? My 10 year old passport is up for renewal and I would like to get the most bang for my buck.

If you're only going to be crossing into Canada, Mexico (and the Caribbean or Bermuda by water) by land or water, the Passport Card can be used. If you're flying, nope. Anyplace else, nope. Think of it more as "passport lite" for those on the northern and southern borders who cross into Canada or Mexico frequently.

It has an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip that reads your information.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Jim B.
