Place for the summer

How about a discussion on a summer place? If you had one to three months available from May to October, where would you spend it? Some criteria for us is a place that we can stay in our motor home and have our little tug with us. A coastal area with a mild summer and away from most hurricanes. Or an inland area with plenty of waterways to explore. We are researching the Lake Powell area and will encourage input on it plus your favorite spots. Join in and lets see what evolves.

Lots to choose from here. The first that comes to mind for moi, though, is Homer, Alaska, at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. I lived/worked in Anchorage for six years and spent beaucoup time on the peninsula during those years.

Homer is on Kachemak Bay and upper Cook Inlet. It has excellent access for your Ranger Tug for halibut and king salmon fishing, not to mention various kinds of bottom fish and crabbing. It has outstanding views of the Alaska Range on the opposite side of the inlet. In addition, there are several lakes on the peninsula where you could drop in your tug for all kinds of freshwater fishing.

Another plus: Tow your boat to the east side of the peninsula and explore Prince William Sound via Seward or Whittier. I spent lots of time kayaking various parts of the sound and can attest to some outstanding fishing, glacier viewing and eye-popping scenery.

The whole trip can be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Let me suggest the Seattle area as a great get away for the summer. Lots of cruising opportunities, the Ranger Tug factories, lots of great fun and the opportunity to spend time with the other owners at the various planned cruises. I have contacted some Rv parks and have phone numbers if you would to talk to them, two of which are in Everett about 30 miles north of Seattle and one in Issaquah (located on Lake Sammamish) about 15 miles east of Seattle. Let me know what you think.

Google "Fidalgo Bay Resort", near Anacortes,WA. It's designed for people like you. There is a bicycle path that runs through the park that leads about a mile and a half to Anacortes and Cap Sante Marina where we keep our boat. About a half day's run to anywhere in the San Juan Islands and a day's run to Canada.

We spent a week in Homer during our 89 day Alaska motor home journey. Homer is very special, we had lunch everyday at the Senior center and met some really nice folks. A good suggestion, just what I am looking for.

Yes, thanks for the research, I will check it out. Trouble is it is too close to the factory.....temptation to upgrade..grins

A pricey but a fabulous campground w/ the ability to have the RV at the CG and a slip for the boat or ramp to haul it out . W/ parking lot to store. Newport Dunes at Newport Beach, CA. Newport Bay is great for just cruising around slow and checking the sights. A trip to Santa Catalina Island could be planned w/ the right wx window. Also, day cruises could be taken to Huntington Harbour, Long Beach, or Los Angeles harbors. Great wx, year round. One of my faves. The down side for some would be the proximity to Southern CA and the freeways to get there.

Why one place? With your set up you could do:
Lake Mead
Lake Powell in Northern Az/Southern Utah
Flaming Gorge in Nortern Utah
Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone NP
Flathead Lake in Montana
Courdelane Lake in Idaho
There is also a very LARGE lake north of Spokane, can't think of the name of it.
Puget Sound in September for the Rendezvous!

All areas have campgrounds and you get to see much more!
