We finally received our Coast Guard Documented letter with our official number. For those who documented their boat, what type of plaque did you use? plastic? metal? stickers? if whatever you used, specially to the metal or plastic, where did you go to get them made. We live in Maple Valley, WA.
thanks,
Lisa

Google it and you will find many sources. Our boat is documented and it has vinyl sticker numbers on the hull, under the V berth pads. Been through 2 Vessel Exams and passed both.
ON EDIT:

I forgot to mention the epoxy resin coat on the numbers. I have seen on other vessels, a laser engraved aluminum plate affixed above the head door.

"HOW DO I MARK MY VESSEL?

The official number assigned to documented vessels, preceded by the abbreviation "NO." must be marked in block-type Arabic numerals at least three inches high on some clearly visible interior structural part of the hull. The number must be permanently affixed so that alteration, removal, or replacement would be obvious and cause some scarring or damage to the surrounding hull area."

I Painted mine over a roughen surface

so far, stickers seem to be ok. I have googled the many options that all boaters have done, but was curious what tug users did. cheaper the better, but wanted to look "official" per the CG document instructions we received. thanks!

I did the same as Captain Steve. Used vinyl letters/numbers under V-berth and hull in aft starboard storage locker. Applied 3 coats of clear epoxy.

On our R27 I used black vinyl letters/numbers applied directly to a stringer in our genset locker covered with 2 coats of clear epoxy resin. We've been inspected by the USGC every year for 5 years without any questions.

On my R-29 I also used the stick-on numbers and preceding letters, adhered them to inside of hull in a cockpit locker, and epoxied on top. I have an R-31 that needs that little chore attended to now....

Port v-berth storage at wide end at hull side, vinyl numbers, three coats clear epoxy. Just have to lift the cushion and it is visible.

three coats clear epoxy.

What exactly does that mean? Is it special epoxy? Just 2 part epoxy painted on with a brush......? How do you do that? I've looked for a suitable epoxy with no luck. I don't think people are doing decoupage any more otherwise that might work. Seems like an easy question, but it has stymied me! Right now, I just have vinyl letters on a stringer - easy to take off. Luckily I haven't been inspected.

You can find it in the hardware store. It is two part clear epoxy used to adhere things together. Just mix it up and use a cheap throw away brush. Put it on lightly so it will not run. If it runs a little brush it until it starts to set. Let it set up and dry and then apply another coat. After 3 times you should be good to go.

I just ordered a stainless steel laser engraved documentation plaque from DocumentedVessel.com .
The plaque arrived in just a few days. Looks very nice. Cost was 99.95 delivered to my door.
I intend to glue it with 3M 5200 to the inside of the hull in the locker with the battery switches on my R25SC.

Todd - same idea here, but we did the teak. Several coats of finish now looking for decent location. Not many great visible options. Might have outsmarted myself.

See my earlier post...looking thru owner albums, several had affixed it to the space above the head door. I had PMed one of them and he said he had passed several USCG inspections.

YOLO has the teak version mounted with Liquid Nails on the wall under the dinette table.

Which Liquid Nails works best to attach teak to fiberglass? I would like to attach a double magazine rack under my table and there seems to be many types of Liquid nails.

Previous owner "engraved" the numbers with a Dremel into the top surface of the stringer in the right hand storage compartment in the cockpit. Then filled the engraving in with some paint. I must say it came out quite neat and readable and VERY permanent.

I got a teak board engraved (about 2 foot long), and glued it to the wood on the overhead where it "steps up" as you move forward toward the captains position. You can see it when you are forward looking aft and up from the forward cabin - but not visible as you move forward from cabin door. It is a classy look but not obtrusive to an observer. I have passed one CG inspection with it.. So I know it was ok with them.
