This is where i keep a second anchor and oars for dingy. Same spot where battery charger, inverter and trim tab pump is.

Now that i see it clearly, this area was never fiber glassed over - it was just painted. over time and water, the plywood has rotten spots.

So i ask what would be the preferred method to repair? I'm inclined to just dig out all the bad wood and ad some epoxy and glass to stabilize it.

I found rotted plywood in both port and starboard lockers, under the generator and batteries, and inverter. Part the cause was sea water coming under the transom door when running in a following sea. Difficult to seal the lockers and the lift latches. I replaced the rotted plywood with 3/4" PVC board sealed with 4200 caulk, and placed vent holes to help keep the area below the PVC drier and allow any cockpit water to drain from the lockers into the bilge. A tell tail sign of rotted wood is the discoloration of the water (brownish) from the weep holes that drain into the bilge. A hammer, chisel, and lots of patience needed in the removal process.

On my 2011 R29 I recently had the plywood replaced in my stbd lazarette due to rot. Required he genset to be removed. The boatyard epoxy sealed the new marine plywood then painted. The new wood had to be installed in 2 pieces. I'll do the same for the port lazarette next year under the batteries and water heater.
