PNW and Canadian US cruisers - MMSI?

For all the PNW cruisers who venture up to BC and Alaska for cruising did you get a BoatUS MMSI or did you go through the process of getting a FCC ships licence MMSI which gets your MMSI put into the international SAR database which the BoatUS one does not?

I had BoatUS and stuck with it. No issues.

I went with the FCC. I believe regulations require any US vessel broadcasting to or from a foreign country have an FCC license. Also, in an emergency while in Canadian waters, I don't want anything to cause a delay in finding me.
