After a long waiting time I finally got delivered a portable ac unit that works on 12v. While the usability has yet to proof itself and has to wait until it gets hot enough around here. Unfortunately, when ordering from a kickstarter campaign delivery dates are not always very solid. So far a nice unit, picture in my album.

The is unit is most likely not as effective as the built in ranger unit, but for someone who does not like it too cold it’s just a fine compromise

Zero Breeze? Looks like a winner from the web site.

Saved it, just in case I come up with a good reason to buy one. Tent camping comes to mind.

Read the comments on the Kickstarter page. People are furious about it. I haven't kept current on it but last time I checked it didn't work, wasn't delivered with all parts and many other problems. 10 minutes in the comment section will show ya.

I'm also pretty sure theirs a class action suit against the company, some people believe its just a huge scam.

There were some early product shipments that were flawed. My unit seems to be working and was complete after waiting 6 months for delivery.

When investing in any kickstarter campaign there is a risk of not receiving anything, or getting a product which may have some flaws. I am sure they work something out for those folks.

I read all those comments. Most people seemed to think that they ordered something like on amazon and got upset if promises were not fulfilled. Company's communication was quite flawed as well, bad customer relationship etiquette.

Developing a new product is quite challenging. I see this every day with my startup clients and have seen this when I was developing products myself a long time ago. Things are so much easier now with contract manufacturing outfits, but logistics challenges still exist.

I still find it fascinating that someone can come up with an idea, and then with a minimal set of staff can produce a unique product.

I purchased a much larger portable air conditioner for our boat's garage to deal with the summer heat and humidity and find the biggest drawback to these portable units is that they have to exhaust the heat they pull out of the air someway. The floor model I have and this little unit both do that with a hose vent to the outside. That requires replacement hot humid outside air to be drawn back into the space you are trying to cool/dehumidify and is somewhat counterproductive. In hindsight, I should have just cut a large hole in the wall and installed a window air conditioner for less cost and greater efficiency (but I was avoiding the large hole for a window unit in my otherwise relatively well insulated garage). For the boat I would think one of the units that mount over the roof hatches would likewise be a better investment (or you can just boat on the great lakes where you do not need air conditioning).
