I receive the MARITIME REPORTER AND ENGINEERING NEWS each month and came across this interesting article (see link below). The article in the magazine covers the item more extensively (they actually tested starting diesel engines) but I think the link gives a good idea as to how good this item is for it's size. The author does mention that "product testing" is not our area of editorial coverage but this one caught their eye and they gave it a test (they actually tested starting gas and diesel engines). And you can go to the WEEGO web site for all the info - http://www.myweego.com. What impressed me most was the versatility and size of the WEEGO and the ability to jump start diesel engines as stated.

Without looking at the innards of this device, the wires going out of it seem to quite undersized to assist in starting
a diesel. I have regular starter cables which get warm when used on a diesel. I am not sure this device would do well.

Amps are needed for starting and if the wires are too small a gauge then those wires are just are resistor that will get
heated up and in worst case can burst into flames.

I have seen a portable battery before which was used by a AAA guy, but the cables and clamps were of proper size.
Don't recall the brand tho

There are different makes of these around pretty neat. Our mechanic at the marina used one and said he started two big block V8's with one . And it still had juice.. I'll have to ask him about the cables as I agree they are small

I too have been following this unit and wonder if it might have another use. When you are days out on the hook and your house batteries are getting low, could you use this battery in parallel as a temporary boost? Or could you hook it up to your 12vDC/120vAC freezer that you brought along to fill with salmon, thereby not drawing down your house batteries? Just wondering. It looks like such a good idea for keeping around to start a dead car/truck battery.

Hydraulicjump,

The reason I did the WEEGO post was that it just seemed interesting enough to let the readers look at it for whatever use they might find. If you were to call WEEGO I am sure they could answer any questions you might have. And it dies not necessarily have to be kept on the boat. Great item to have in the car or around the house for battery issues.
