how have you tug nuts cleaned off the tarnish on your brass portholes,Any tricks other then polishing till my fingers bleed?

Tarnish? I beg your pardon! It took a long time to build up that beautiful patina! Why would I want to remove it?

Barkeepers Friend and a stiff brush works well.

See my post here about using lemons and salt (works great for relatively clean ports):

For major clean: Remove inside port from boat (remove nuts on outside, remove screws on inside threaded through outside flange and pull inside portion, leaving outside flange stuck in place). Soak parts in 5:1 muriatic acid. Use 2:1 on difficult areas. Brush. Rinse. Use 00 steel wool to polish, then 0000 as final polish. Finish with Brasso. (Be careful with the acid!)
