We plan on heading north to BC with a stop in Portland. Any advice as to the best put in spot? marina? Thanks in advance.

I was just researching that this morning as well. Off of I-5 the best boat ramp seems to be across the river in Vancouver, WA. It's just east of Hayden Island and a lot of the marinas in that area.

We use to stay for 2 months at a time at Rocky Pointe Marina west of Portland near Scappose but they say they no longer do short term moorage. So that leaves the several Columbia Crossing Marinas

or http://www.salparemarina.com/
as the only two marinas I could find offering less than seasonal (6 month) moorage.

If anyone knows of other short-term moorage possibilities at Portland area marinas, I'd love to hear about them too!

Another launch ramp is on the Portland side right next to the west end of PDX.

I believe the Portco ramp in Vancouver mentioned by uboatcdr is the very same Vancouver Marine Park ramp I gave you the link too above.

Both of the ramps mentioned are good ones. If you are coming from the south, Gleason (the second of the two, on the southern side of the Columbia River) lets you avoid crossing over the bridge to Washington. Depending on your timing, that bridge is a bottleneck these days.

As for a marina, any chance you are a member of a yacht club? If so, there should be several places in the area that offer reciprocal moorage. I'm a past member of Rose City Yacht Club and current member of Portland Yacht Club. Both are great facilities, with PYC offering a bit more in terms of amenities (restaurant, bar, staffed clubhouse, etc). There are a host of month-to-month moorages in the general area that no doubt offer short term options, too.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
