I’ve installed a Victron shunt and moved every negative from the house bank over to a bus. What I did not find on the house negative, however, was the solar negative, despite what I believe is the solar positive being connected on the positive side of the house bank. Looking deeper, I think I may be seeing the solar negative connected instead to the thruster battery negative.

At the same time, it appears that the shunt may be understating the remaining charge. My working theory is that this could be happening because the solar input is not being measured correctly if the solar negative is in fact landing on the thruster side. In other words, the solar charging may either not be counted at all, or potentially even be affecting the shunt calculation in the wrong direction, despite the house bank actually being charged by solar.

My main question is whether the solar negative being connected to the thruster battery negative is how the boat was originally intended to be wired. The schematics appear to show the solar negative going to the house negative, but I am fairly sure that is not how it is currently connected. Moving what I believe to be the solar negative over to the bus will likely take me several hours, so I’m hoping to confirm as much as I can before doing that, including whether making that change could interfere with charging of the thruster battery.

I’m the first owner of the boat.
