How do you post a photo on “for Sale” and also on “improvements by owner”?

There are two ways to embed images in your posts.

If the picture you want to include is in one of your gallery folders (on Tugnuts), click on the g2Img button. That will open another window which will allow you to browse your galleries and select a picture. Be patient, it can take a while for the new window to populate. It should default to your album when it opens.

Click the box in the upper left of the picture you want to post. Scroll (way) down to the bottom of the window and click Submit. That will attach the picture to your post.

If the picture isn't in your gallery, perhaps something you've seen elsewhere on the web, or in another personal web collection (i.e. flickr, picassa, etc.) then you click the Img button. The image/collection must be open to the public.

This will create the following string in your posting window - then you copy and paste the URL (http://whatever...jpg) of the desired image in the middle, between the ][ brackets. The trick here is to determine the direct URL of the image. Various image hosting sites show it in different ways. Sometimes it's right up in the address bar. Other times it's listed under "Share This Image", etc.

You can determine if you have the correct URL by hitting the Preview button. If it displays, you're good to go. If it's not correct, the form will give you some kind of clue so you can go back and dig around. You'll only have to figure it out once for each host.

Getting a User Photo Album is easy but it requires submitting a request from within the site structure.

1. Sign on to the site.

2. Select the User Control Panel link from the upper left corner of any page. Note: On the home page, this link is in your user menu in the upper right.

3. Click the Usergroups tab, then select the radio button next to the User Albums group.
Scroll down, choose "Join selected" in the drop-down menu, and click the Submit button.

Once you do this, an email is automatically sent to the administrator (me). That message will trigger my ability to approve your request, and you'll receive an email indicating your membership in the UserAlbums group has been activated.

I'll watch for the message, and look forward to seeing your pictures.

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce,

Some time ago you told me a more user-friendly website (Tugnuts forum) was under construction. Has that effort been abandoned?

No, not abandoned. But it continues to be delayed.

Hi Bob,

We've faced some unique challenges migrating Tugnuts to a more modern platform without compromising the extensive catalog of posts and user accounts found on this site.

I know a new Tugnuts has been a long time coming. We have a new migration tool, built by a new developer. I am optimistic that we will have an improved Tugnuts in the near future.

Thanks to everyone for your patience.

A scary proposition! I have yet to see a platform migration where there is not data lost. The Tugnuts Forum is one of the best tools I have ever used. The combined history of so many users has been an enormous benefit to me in trouble shooting issues and obtaining information about what “is possible” in using the boat. Please take your time so we do not lose our precious history. Thanks for your efforts in maintaining the site and it’s existence. I appreciate your work.

Thanks Kurt - we know Tugnuts has become a really valuable knowledge base, built on both crowd sourced boater experience and factory expertise. As much as we'd like to present (and grow) it on an updated feature rich platform, preserving the content is our first objective. We appreciate everyone hanging in and contributing.

Cheers,

Bruce

Sam and Bruce,

I appreciate both your replies.

When I consider how easy it is to copy/paste or drag & drop a pic from your device into an an email, seeing Bruce's explanation above how the Tugnuts process works seems laborious, if not confusing.

When Covid curtailed a lot of our boating activity, Ranger Tugs jumped in with a series of Zoom meetings on different topics that were cataloged in YouTube videos. These videos remain a useful tool today.

Maybe a Zoom meeting to explain the ins and outs of how to use Tugnuts to its fullest potential to those of us who are computer-challenged could happen. Then future users would need only to reference a YouTube video for their step-by-step guide.

I use the app Tapatalk. Posting photos is a 4 tap process.

It’s convenient to post…but for those of us who don’t use or choose to install Tapatalk the pictures are not viewable. At least that has been my experience. I just tried tapping on your link and got no response. My wife likes Tapatalk but I tried it and found it a bit intrusive. I didn’t care for how the app served up a lot of “suggestions” and ads about other unrelated sites that I didn’t want or need. And if I post a pic, I want it to be available to everyone on the site. Maybe I’m missing something about picture posting and viewing; let me know if so.

When I click the g2Img button it opens a new window that won't load in the Safari browser. I installed Chrome and it tells me that popup window is insecure and it won't let me do anything within that window. Just wanted to comment about my experience. Thanks

The g2Img album directory window loads in Safari. It's slow, just be patient. I don't use Chrome but you can allow pop ups on a site specific basis. I don't know if it performs any better. YMMV.

Sam, Bruce —

I know we’ve discussed this before, but if the biggest issue with migration to a new platform is migrating the data, perhaps we could call for volunteers to help with the effort from members of our community. I’m retired, and would have plenty of time to offer. Members with an IT background may be able to help.

Thanks. Member since 2014 and first picture post. You really have to be patient on that loading to your album, it took a solid 5 to 7 minutes to load (chrome) but it did it.

thanks!

The explanation for posting a photo is very confusing. It is much easier on the hull truth site.
