Power cord R21ec

Fellow 21 owner,

I just found out that the power cord on my boat actually belongs to the marina :? I am about to order one online and I am wondering what should I order? Is it a 15 amp or 30 amp cord? How many feet do you suggest? If I wish to plug the tug at home, do I need special connector for a regular household outlet?

Regular outdoor extension cord is all you need to plug in at home. But for marinas you will need the proper adapter. I have a 50 foot cord and an adapter to go to a marina 30 amp connection. The adapter is a foot long and has led light to show proper polarity. I think it was made by Furion.

Good morning Pat,

In regards to a power cord for your 21 EC you may want to think about getting 2-25 foot heavy duty marine grade cords. In some marinas you may back into the slip and you'll likely only need 15-25 ft. Having the option of a shorter cord prevents you from having a bunch of cord lying around or falling into the water. You can always plug the cords together to give you a longer cord if needed. You will need an adapter to use at the power terminal in marinas.

For home use make sure you obtain the correct wire gauge for the distance from your house connection to the R-21's battery charge socket.

For the Marina I use a 12' Marinco shore power line with a twist locking ring to secure it to the dock's 30amp power pedestal. The other end I attach a Marinco 15amp adapter and from this a short 15amp capable line to the battery charger socket. I also connect a GFI in the line between the adapter and battery charger for added safety. It is somewhat of a wire mess but I tidy it up nicely so it does not seem to be such a mess. 😉

Just a reminder if you have not seen the charger plug, it only takes a standard 15 amp plug, not one of those over sized plugs with a snap off cover.
