What most lower 48/Canadian boaters call Alaska is the southeaster panhandle or what we refer to as simply "Southeast". Few know/care that Ketchikan is actually closer to Seattle(670mi) than it is to Anchorage(770mi). Or that for boating Prince William Sound offers the same access to seemingly endless shorelines, hundreds of islands, tidewater glaciers, and teeming wildlife. PWS also has the advantages of calmer weather, lower tides/currents, and less boating traffic. For someone with a trailerable Ranger Tug and enough time on their hands, boat camping up the AlCan and spending a few days/weeks on PWS would be a grand adventure.

For anyone interested I finally got around to adding a few pics to my album of the past three seasons that we've had the R25. Following are a couple samples.

Oh.... Those photos are simply awesome/excellent. Thank you.... Your boat in the photo "Calm Amid the Storm" is one of my most liked. 😀

Thanks for the comments, Baz. Yes that is one of my favorite photos too. Though for me it carries memories with it. We were hiding out waiting for a storm to pass. It was blowing 35kts in a bay that we had to cross to get home. A seven day trip turned into nine.

Jim, sorry about the pics. It should be fixed now.

Dan, You fixed what ever was the issue.
Beautiful pictures, makes waiting for our boat just that much more difficult.

I lived in Anchorage for six years and spent quite a bit of time in PWS kayaking and exploring its many wonders. Often thought about towing the Red Ranger up there for a month or two, switching from PWS to Kachemak Bay near Homer. That would be a trip of a lifetime.

Now that I'm upgrading to a R-27 outboard (and recognizing that my 3/4 ton Dodge RAM won't haul the new boat), I have to put this trip on the shelf. But I would heartily recommend it for others looking for a grand adventure. You won't regret it.

You need to figure out the towing situation. You can't have covered much of the sound by kayak. There's still a lot to see. We've spent 15 seasons on the sound and still see a bit of new territory every year.

Spectacular!! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful Pictures! Thanks for sharing them, Dan.
This fall I had the pleasure of joining a fishing trip with the guys from Whitehorse to Cordova; by truck and ferry, not with our boat. I can attest to how spectacular the scenery is! The ferry trip between Valdez, Whittier, and Cordova is truly awesome. I was wishing I had my boat there for sure.
Anyone planning to tow their boat there will want to leave plenty of extra time for the drive though. The highway is pretty winding and bumpy in places. The frost heaves and permafrost do nasty things to the highways up here in the north.
Still would be worth the drive, IMHO. It is beautiful country with some world-class fishing!

Thanks for commenting, guys.

Ron, where do you use your 25SC? I've often thought of hauling across the boarder and spending a few days on Kluane Lake. But with relatively easy access to PWS it's hard to go elsewhere. Ever boated on Kluane?

I've got a friend that recently married a Canadian lady and moved to Whitehorse.

Dan. We just bought the boat this fall and had it out on Kusawa Lake. Then the weather got cold and I had to winterize. We are planning to tow it to Skagway next summer for some Alaska coast cruising. Tagish Lake and Atlin Lake are also on our wish list.
We have avoided Kluane Lake with our previous 18 foot boat because it can get pretty rough. Now that we have a bigger boat, we're not sure we can launch it in Kluane Lake anymore. A change in the water flow feeding the lake has caused a drastic drop in water level, and the boat ramps are now high and dry. We haven't gone there yet to investigate, but I don't know if there is anywhere we could launch now.
