Problem with Garmin and the AIS

Fluid Motion Model
R-27 (Outboard)
Hull Identification Number
FMLT2707F122
Vessel Name
Rosy
MMSI Number
368353810
My system has started showing my vessel location separate from my vessel AIS location and is now giving me a constant collision warning with myself. This is the 8612 head unit and I have recently (2 weeks ago) done the software update. It was never doing this before nor have I ever had this problem with any other Garmin system. Do you guys think the update caused this or maybe there is a loose connector somewhere?
Here is an image of the display when I was going fast and the AIS location dropped behind me quite a bit.

This might be happening if you have AIS on your radio and also a AIS black box (redundent AIS receivers) and only one AIS transmitter (black box)
Your radio can see your black box transmitted AIS signature and place it next to your position on the NM2000 network device (chartplotter)
If so turn the AIS on your radio to off and it will probably go away.
It gets further behind you due to the latency of the signal coming from your black box so the faster you go the further you are from where you were (latency delay) when you sent the ping.

I have the Standard Horizon Explorer Radio. I do not believe it transmits AIS.

Still seems like you are receiving your own AIS return and this shows as another vessel (you) on your screen and latency pushes it further behind with more speed.
Maybe it is a glitch in the new firmware as it should not see your sent AIS signal coming back to you???

Yeah, I just can't think what would also be receiving and displaying my AIS. I double checked my radio, it is the GX1850, and it doesn't show any AIS receive or anything. I am contemplating checking for another software update for the Garmin but we are on a trip right now on the boat, and an annoying system is way better than a broken one.

You need to tell your chartplotter what your MMSI number is so it knows who you are. Go into settings, find Nema-2k, find your chartplotter, and you'll see the spot to enter your MMSI number. @venajeff

I have looked, to the best of my ability, to find a place to enter my MMSI but can't find a spot to enter it. I can find a "hull number" but that is for warranty reference.
I have a love hate relationship with the Garmin settings menus. They are easy to use but seems over simplified.
When I purchased this boat I had the MMSI number changed in the VHF and the AIS unit, but it don't remember ever entering it into the GPS. Maybe I did, but can't remember. But it was working fine for over a year.

Which chartplotter do you have? I've done this on Channel Surfing, and an R29 with dual screens (else, one screen showed the boat as a target.

On the 8612 the MMSI setting it under Settings, Nema2k, Your AIS unit, whatever model it is. IMG_1276.jpeg

Mine doesn't look like that. There is no option for entering an AIS.
I have the Main display 8612xsv
And the AIS800

Ok, I went ahead and installed all the latest updates (against my better judgement). I had updated everything about 2 or 3 weeks ago but there was a new one available now.
My 8612 is now running software version 39.01
AIS800 software version 2.90
Still have the same problem.
I decided to call Garmin. They are super nice BTW. After walking me through all the obvious causes he concluded it is likely a problem with the latest update. He said he has had another customer with the same problem recently. So I guess I need to wait for the next update.
I don't know if it is an AIS software or GPS unit issue. I will just wait and hope they figure it out.

So after a whole bunch of different attempts to figure out what was causing my boat to show up as a collision target, Garmin had me do a Factory Reset. They also had me disconnected the NMEA2000 and Network wires so that only the head unit did the reset.
Settings>System>System Information>Reset>Reset Defualt Settings

Now the problem is fixed!
