Good Afternoon:

While anchored this afternoon, I inflated the dinghy and attached the Yamaha F6 outboard. The motor briefly started and I noticed gas dripping from the top of the carburetor out of two small holes in the metal (the holes are part of the carburetor casing). The motor had no issues before it was winterized but hasn't been run for over a year.

I referenced the Service Manual I have on board but it was no help on the cause. I was thinking that it might be a stuck float??

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Mike

We have the F6 and are familiar with this problem. Yes, the float is stuck.

You will need to disassemble the carb, clean the float body, and clean the jets. Not too hard but if you haven't had experience doing this you should consider a mechanic.

Consider draining the carburetor after each use. The easiest way is to run the motor dry. The other option is to drain the float bowl. There is a drain located on the bottom of the float body that you can open with a phillips screw driver.

Let us know if you have questions.

Sometimes the quick way works too. Tapping on the bowl of the carburetor with the handle of a screw driver has worked for me. Regardless I do agree the float is stuck.

Thanks much!

Mike
