I had all new batteries installed on my 2018 30S. I am not sure the connections were correct.

1. When shore power is not connected, the indicator lights on a portion of the 120V panel are faintly illuminated. I am pretty sure this was not the case before the battery change. I didn't think too much about this because everything seemed to be working fine. But, it does seem strange that some power is finding it's way into the 120v panel. Does anyone have a perspective on this?

2. Is the Garmin chart plotter powered by the house batteries? I don't think this was the case before my battery change but it is definitely that way now. (I say, "I don't think so..." as the boat is fairly new to me and I can't remember if the Garmin powered up from the house bank). Can someone tell me which way it should be?

3. So, the real reason I am posting these questions is because shortly after the new batteries were installed, my inverter/charger failed and had to be replaced. The failure was that no 120v shore power would get to the 120v panel. OK, well things can fail, so I soldiered on. However, today, after only a month, the new inverter/charger has also malfunctioned causing my house batteries to go flat (no idea if it will solar charge as the boat is kept in a boat house). This seems more than a coincidence. I am wondering if the battery re-install and these failures could be related. I would be interested (and grateful) for the perspectives of forum members.

Aloha JSimmons, I had similar problems with my 2019 C30 CB (Identical boat systems) regarding he batteries and inverter. My inverter charger gave out on me. I replaced all the banks, and put in a new inverter charger. The other day I came down to the boat and half of my AC panel was not working. The Microwave and outlets. After some research here, I found out the inverter which has the AC shore power run through it, and it had isolated that bus. I turned off the inverter with the power switch on the actual unit in the starboard cockpit hatch and that reset it. Works fine now.

The other thing I learned recently (embarrassing because this is my second season), all the banks need to be left on to charge. I don’t know why, but this is certainly the case with my current boat, but hasn’t been the case on previous boats I have owned. I was struggling in the low 13’s within a day, now I’m 14.1V ever time I come aboard.

Regarding the Garmin, yes, the house bank (DC) powers it and almost everything else used for operating the systems on the boat. The AC is more for creature comforts, i.e. Air Conditioning, microwave, Outlets, ext…
