Hello all,

I have a 2013 R27 and am not able to program my new Volvo e-key (only had 1 e-key) as it is not recognized when holding next to helm control and I am told I need to update engine software. I understand I need to get a Bluetooth interface to talk to the Volvo Easy Connect app I have loaded on my phone - in order to upload/upgrade engine s/w. Has anyone done that? Where to buy BT interface h/w? How much does it cost?

Thanks,
Ed F

Ed, I was told by Aaron, the Factory Rep, that only a Volvo technician can update the software. Although many of the gas engine Volvo Penta dealers/techs have the VODA software programs, only a diesel tech can/licensed to do the updates.
I am in the same situation.
After talking with a Volvo tech he said to make sure the boat has only a limited, (I believe 4), key fobs currently programmed as the program won't accept a new e-key fob if the limit has been reached. You can check and see how many are programmed using the instructions in the manual. If you do have a number of key fobs programmed in, you can erase all but the one you have and then you will be able to program your new fob. If that doesn't work then the tech will have to update the software. I'm on the waiting list to get a tech out to my boat to update the software as even after deleting a couple of old fobs, I did not receive with the boat, my new fob would not program.
Your system may be different then mine, but if it isn't, I hope this information helps.

Terry

PS There may be others on this site that can provide more information. Brian, BBMarine, would know a lot more about this matter as I am only relaying information I've learned thus far.

Thank you Terry for the reply. I only have the 1 e-Key registered with 3 slots available. I spoke with a Volvo tech in Beaufort, NC on the coast and will have to trailer my R27 to them - 2.5 hr trip. He'll update s/w and program the new e-Key. (about 2 hrs @ $165/hr!)

I am a general mechanic and hate to have to take things to be serviced but I guess I have to.

Thanks,
Ed F.
